Alper to Receive Stratis V. Sotirchos Lectureship Award
Dr. Hal Alper has been named the recipient of the 2017 Stratis V. Sotirchos (SVS) Lectureship for producing original and fundamentally important results in chemical engineering.
“Hal Alper is a truly trailblazing, emerging star and innovator within the field of biochemical engineering,” a nominator said. “Hal’s research record is simply exceptional and a testament to his impact on the field. He is molding great chemical engineers and indeed our engineering leaders for the next century.”
The award and lectureship was created to honor the memory of one of the Foundation for Research & Technology – Hellas‘ most distinguished researchers, Professor Stratis V. Sotirchos. The award is supported by the “Stratis V. Sotirchos Trust Fund”, which was established through donations from friends and colleagues of Sotirchos.
Alper is a leader in biotechnology and energy, focusing on engineering biology to produce organic molecules of interest such as biofuels, commodity and specialty chemicals, and protein pharmaceuticals. This recognition adds to Alper’s many accolades, most recently including the Emerging Inventor of the Year Award presented by the UT Austin Office of Technology and Commercialization.
The SVS Lectureship is awarded every second year to an engineer-scientist who is then invited to present the Stratis V. Sotirchos Lecture at the Pan-Hellenic Scientific Conference in Chemical Engineering. This year’s conference will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, May 25.Tags: Dr. Hal Alper, Foundation for Research & Technology - Hellas, McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering, Stratis V.
