2022 CHE Wang Wennie 3

Assistant Professor Wennie Wang has received the American Physical Society’s 2025 Maria Goeppert Mayer Award which recognizes outstanding achievements by a woman physicist in the early years of her career.

Wang, who joined the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin in 2022, was recognized for her, “outstanding contributions to the field of materials science, including pioneering research on defective transition metal oxides for energy sustainability, a commitment to broadening participation of underrepresented groups in computational materials science, and leadership and advocacy in the scientific community.”

The Wang Materials Group utilizes and deploys computational methods to engineer the electronic, transport, and optical properties of materials in energy sustainability technologies enabled by high-performance computing (HPC).

The Center for Dynamics and Control of Materials: an NSF MRSEC, a multi-disciplinary cohort of researchers from across science and engineering at UT Austin which creates materials and develops approaches for actively controlling and reconfiguring materials in real time cited, “Her dedication to both science and mentorship has inspired many within the lab and the broader community.”
