Nicholas A.Peppas

About

Nicholas Peppas is a professor of biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, pharmacy, as well as pediatrics and surgery in the Dell Medical School. He has developed pioneering research in the areas of biomaterials, controlled drug delivery, bioadhesion, biological recognition and molecular modeling of protein structures in contact with biomaterials and tissues. He holds the Cockrell Family Regents Chair in Engineering #6 and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Inventors, the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. 

Peppas has been the recipient of over 150 national and international awards, including the Giulio Natta Medal from the Polytechnic School of Milan, Italy and the Founder’s Award from the National Academy of Engineering.

Peppas’ research lab contributions have been in several areas of drug delivery, biomaterials, biomolecular engineering, mass transfer, kinetics and reaction engineering, polymers and biomedical engineering. Their multidisciplinary approach in biomolecular engineering blends modern molecular and cellular biology with engineering to generate next-generation systems and devices, including bioMEMS with enhanced applicability, reliability, functionality and longevity.
