Graduate students Harrison Lippie and Jorge Martorell have been chosen for the spring 2025 Samsung Fellowships.

Texas ChE graduate students are among eight chosen at the University of Texas at Austin for the Samsung Fellowship Awards for Spring 2025. Thanks to a recent donation from Samsung, eight fellowships were awarded to students enrolled in the Cockrell School of Engineering. This fellowship includes a spring stipend, insurance, tuition payment and a $5,000 topping fellowship.

Harrison Lippie

Resasco Catalysis Lab

“Harrison uses electrochemistry and advanced spectroscopy techniques to understand the dynamic surfaces of complex metal oxide catalysts used for water electrolysis. The insights from this work will be used to design cheaper, higher-performance catalysts for the production of green hydrogen.”

Texas ChE student Jorge Martorell

Jorge Martorell

Jorge Martorell

Texas Carbon Management Program / Gary Rochelle Lab

UT Process and Energy Systems Engineering / Michael Baldea Lab

“Jorge uses process systems engineering techniques to model carbon capture processes. The goal of this work is to develop tools for designing cost-optimized carbon capture units which can greatly reduce emissions from fossil-fuel power plants and other carbon-intensive industries.”
