2024 Peppas BMAMat Award

The Chinese Association for Biomaterials recognized professor Nicholas Peppas of the University of Texas at Austin’s Cockrell School of Engineering with the 2024 Global Biomaterials Leadership Award. Professor Peppas was selected for “his global leadership and pioneering contributions in the field of biomaterials science, drug delivery and regenerative medicine.”

Later this summer, Peppas will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the first-ever joint symposium between the journals Biomedical Engineering Materials (BMEMat) and Advanced Materials. The event will take place at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and will bring together leading scholars in the field of biomaterials from around the world. The symposium aims to provide opportunities to engage with cutting-edge research, connect with editors from top journals, foster communication with international experts in biomedical engineering materials and strengthen ties with international colleagues.

At UT, Peppas is the director of the Institute for Biomaterials, Drug Delivery and Regenerative Medicine as well as the Cockrell Family Regents Chair in Engineering No. 6. He holds appointments in the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering, the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the College of Pharmacy and the Dell Medical School. He has published more than 1,200 refereed publications and holds 54 US and international patents.

Peppas is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Inventors, the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
