Hee Jeung Oh, assistant professor of chemical engineering and of materials science and engineering at Penn State, has been named the 2024 recipient of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Separations Division’s (AIChE) Fractionation Research Inc./John G. Kunesh Award.
Oh, who completed her Ph.D. from the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering in 2015, under the supervision of Prof. Benny Freeman and Prof. Donald Paul, was recognized for “outstanding contributions to the academic, scientific, technological, industrial, or service areas involving separations technologies,” according to the award website.
Oh was specifically honored for her research in the development of polymeric materials and processes for adsorption and membrane-based separations. Her work on polymers has contributed to the design of membranes for liquid, gas and vapor separations; resource recovery and recycling; chemical and biochemical manufacturing; environmental remediation; energy storage; and health-related devices, according to AlChE.
