Stevens Endowed Industrial Seminar Series: Emerging Developments in Industrial Adhesives

Tuesday, October 24, 2023
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Location: EER 3.646

While structural and pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are well-known and highly utilized in industrial bonding and joining, the accelerated pace of technology development, increased emphasis on automation in manufacturing, and increased emphasis on sustainability are driving new needs in the assembly of automotives, electronics, and general consumer goods. Addressing these emerging needs, require a fundamental understanding of the rheological and mechanical behavior of polymer networks combined with control of the curing which generate them. In this talk, I will be sharing how our group in the Corporate Research Materials Lab is supporting the development of new technologies for structural adhesives and PSAs. I will be highlighting trends driving industrial adhesive development and recent technologies that have been commercialized for automotive and general industrial applications.

Victor Ho is a senior technical supervisor in the Corporate Research Materials Laboratory of 3M. He joined 3M after receiving his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas (Hook ‘Em!).  His thesis focused on the synthesis and characterization of semiconducting block copolymers which he has applied to industrial work on polyester films, pressure-sensitive adhesives, and thermally conductive materials.
